We had the opportunity to sit down with Boston's award winning singer-songwriter and artist Ruby Rose Fox.  We caught her before she embarks on her longest tour yet for the release of her latest album 'Domestic.'  We discuss her artistic process, how she found her voice and how musicians can stay afloat and find new financial streams in a time of free information and free streaming music.

Ruby Rose Fox, a vocal powerhouse of soul-driven, edgy rock ‘n’ roll (with a nod to new wave pop), whose voice threatens to knock down the walls of any room in which she performs is hard at work to make 2016 her strongest year of new releases and live performances.

In July & August 2015 Ruby Rose Fox was both the Improper Bostonian magazine’s pick for Best Musician of 2015 in the “Boston’s Best” issue, and featured on the cover of its 2015 “ Music” issue.

Ruby also took home the “ Best Pop Artist,” and “ Best Female Vocalist” honors at the 2015 Boston Music Awards, and was named “ Female Performer of the Year,” by the 2 016 New England Music Awards.

The Boston Herald describes Ruby Rose Fox’s music as “ arty, edgy rock ‘n’ roll that lets her be Lou Reed and Nico at the same time… [and seems] to come from another scene, another world.”

In April, 2015, Ruby Rose Fox embarked on a very successful tour supporting Martha Davis and The Motels promoting the release of two new singles: Blue Angel and Good Friday along the way.

On June 10th, 2015, Ruby Rose Fox was the musical guest featured in a live production of WBUR/NPR’s On Point Live! with Tom Ashbrook and Cheryl Strayed.

Following her Spring, 2015 tour with Martha Davis and the Motels, Ruby Rose Fox went back to the studio, working on a fresh album in conjunction with a Pledge Music campaign.

The new album, “Domestic” will be released on 5/24/2016, and will be supported by a series of new music videos to be released before the end of Summer, 2016.

In 2015 Ruby Rose Fox won “Best Pop Artist,” and “Best Female Vocalist”, at the Boston Music awards. She also won the 2016 New England Music Award for “Best Female Performer.”

We chat with Award Winning Singer/Songwriter, Artist Lisa Bastoni about her 10 year break from music, how she wrote a whole new album while her kids were sleeping, song contests and more.

Lisa Bastoni returns to music after ten years with The Wishing Hour (Jan. 2017), produced by Grammy-nominated songwriter/producer Felix McTeigue (Lori McKenna/Anais Mitchell). Recorded in New York and Nashville, and also in her kids' playroom in the wee hours of the night, the album debuted as #1 most played album on Boston's WUMB. Lisa's song "Rabbit Hole" was the grand prize winner in the 2016 Great American Song contest. Maverick-UK writes: "Americana of the highest order, along the lines of Gretchen Peters or Patty Griffin, with high quality musos to match." As a solo performer, Lisa “has a grounded sincerity that rings true. Her lilting voice, evocative imagery and supportive guitar work make for a delightful combination.” (Rich Eilbert/LOMA)

John Elliott - Dopamine Squirt

Jenee and Danielle pull musician and poetic outlaw John Elliott out of bed to talk fearlessness, songwriting and mental health.

John Elliott’s music has been called “tear at your heartstrings, folksy” and “a surreal and trippy cool kind of pop thing.” It has also been referred to as “Post-Seinfeld, Post 9/11 Eyebrow Rock.” Regarding Elliott’s lyrics, Chuck Schiele of The San Diego Troubadour says, “They get in, make their statement, kick you in the teeth, and get out before they start talking too much…And this lends to the urge of rolling any track to its beginning for another spin.
